Together with the Council on Foundations and the Community Foundations National Standards Board, U.S. community foundations embarked on an effort to provide evidence that they seek excellence for donors and the communities they serve. Since 2000, hundreds of community foundations have voluntarily undertaken a rigorous process of demonstrating their adherence to National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations—the first standards program of its kind in the philanthropic field. 

Williams Group helped define early communications promoting the value of National Standards to community foundations and their audiences. A few years later, we were invited to create a robust website where community foundations can find everything they need to understand and prepare to achieve National Standards for performance and accountability: actions steps, resources, training and more. 

Approximately 500 community foundations have been confirmed in compliance with National Standards. Dozens more are engaged in the process.
